Meet Joey O’Connor

Joey O’Connor has been in the insurance business since graduating from Louisiana State University in 1991 when he joined his Father, a principle owner of a large family owned agency.  Joey spent over 17 years acquiring technical expertise from his Dad. He has spent the vast majority of his career serving family owned  and local businesses.  Being born, educated and heavily involved in the local community by being very active in numerous organizations, it has reinforced the importance of knowing the local landscape, challenges and external factors that impact many local businesses.  By being a part of a locally owned family business for many years and now running his own local agency, he has a unique grasp on those business’ needs and can react effectively with specialized insurance tools and products.

Education Background:

·         1985 Graduated from Brother Martin High School, New Orleans, LA
·         1990 Graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree  with concentration in Science, History and Psychology.
·         1992 Graduated CNA School of Sales and Technical Training
·         1992 Graduated CNA Technical and Underwriting School
·         1997 Earned Certified Insurance Counselor Designation.

Professionally, Joey continues to be engaged in the insurance industry by serving in numerous Local, State and National capacities from 2002 to current.  These are some of the positions he has filled:

Independent Insurance Agents of Greater New Orleans (IIAGNO):

·         Board of Directors 2001 to 2008.
·         Secretary 2009, Treasurer 2010, President-Elect 2011
·         President 2012, Past-President 2013

Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of Louisiana (IIABL):

·         2002-2005 – State Young Agents Chairman
·         2010-Present – Board of Directors, currently serving as Government Affairs Committee Chair

Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America (IIABA):

·         2003-2007 – Served on National Young Agents Committee
·         2007-2009 – Served as National Young Agents Chair
·         2009-2010 – Served as Board of Director on National Best Practices Committee
·         2010-Current – Serving on National InVest Committee as Board of Director

Awards:

·         1986 Outstanding Young Man of St. Christopher Parish (CYO)
·         1986 Outstanding Young Man of Archdiocese of New Orleans (CYO)
·         1986 and 1987 Named Outstanding Camp Counselor Muscular Dystrophy Association in Greater New Orleans.
·         2007 and 2009 Outstanding Service Award, Committee Member, IIABL.

Service and Other Community Involvement:

·         1981-1990 involved in St. Christopher CYO, serving as Treasurer and President.
·         1987 Presented Eucharistic Gifts to Pope John Paul II at New Orleans Mass held at UNO.
·         1986-1988 Summer Camp Counselor for Greater New Orleans Muscular Dystrophy Association.
·         1997-1999 Board of Directors Camp Fire Organization.
·         1991-Current Coached many Youth Boys and Girls Sports teams: CYO, Playground and Schools.
